OUR BEST OF 2011 LIST (for Workin’ Nights)

I was having an internal debate about the appropriateness of doing a “best of” list for Discriminate Music a few weeks ago. I couldn’t quite wrap my head around whether a shop should play favorites, or maintain a professional distance and just say “I like them all equally“, which of course is b.s.


Luckily, Workin’ Nights was there to push me through that reservation and offered to publish our favorite 11 releases of 2011 (bounce over to their website to see several more best of lists from the Workin’ Nights crew and friends). I cheated a little and sent them 2 lists (one for LPs and one for cassettes), and then cheated a little more to include multiple releases from certain artists that really blew our minds. So, for the curious, here’s what inspired us and dominated our stereo last year (among many many many other releases from many many many other amazing labels and artists), and links provided for items that we currently have in stock :
