Christmas Decorations recorded most of their fourth album Oomycota in the Catskills mountains of upstate New York, and the secluded location nicely parallels the group's understated approach. Releasing albums on their own label, Wodger, they continue to operate outside the fashionable gaze of Brooklyn, where half of the quartet still live, years removed from the spotlight that shone on their kranky debut. This low-key approach has freed the group to develop an increasingly personal approach to composition and sonic palette. Oomycota continues the open-ended structural explorations of 2008's Far Flung Hum, with a heavier emphasis on electronics reminiscent of earlier Christmas Decorations releases.

To capture the chemistry developed through five years of performing in concert, Hells Hills recorded their debut full length, "The Pearled Ether" live at the Church of the Messiah in Brooklyn. The fully improvised session reflects the broad range of Hells Hills' material, from gentle ambience to energetic, throbbing percussive heaviness, for a sound that is both psychedelic and organic. The diversity of the group's work outside of this quintet makes this range seem unsurprising—Greg plays guitar for long-time indie innovators The Scene is Now, Brent's old rock band the Occasion were among New York's best a few years back, and (on top of Christmas Decorations and his solo work) Nick is busy preparing for the Rorschach reunion tour.

Defeated" is the 3rd solo album from Nick Forté. Forté's first two solo albums fell squarely in the electronic music camp but "Defeated" tells another tale entirely, acting as a mirrored reflection to his past digital works. Live to cassette acoustic scrape/rattle and misguided pedal loopery is emitted from a pile of junk, grunts, and small instruments. "Defeated" draws inspiration from Forte's longtime fascination with the free improvisation of early AACM and Incus Records folks, filtered through a more modern noise/tape collage absurdism. Culled from a swelteringly hot, week-long blowout session during the summer of 2008 in his attic studio, "Defeated" has an intimate presence and desperate portrayal of spontaneous, wrinkled sound creation.

Steve from Christmas Decorations teams up with old friends Kyle Bruckmann and Jeremy Lemos, who both sometimes work on famous records and often make obscure ones of their own. Driving rhythms and evolving drones. Electronic mayhem collides with clanging metal and a mijwiz.

Wodger's first release is the third Christmas Decorations LP Far-Flung Hum. We recorded it in the Catskills Mountains in upstate New York in summer 2007. The outdoor sessions on the back porch were particularly fun and memorable. It's the first recording from our expanded quartet lineup, which allowed us to rely more on live performances. The letter-press cover wraps around the record jacket in a unique match-book style.
